With so many choices of wineries, whether that be Barossa, McLaren Vale, or the Adelaide Hills, we decided to help you with some of the top wineries in South Australia. Take a day trip with your loved one, or hire a mini bus for a large group or event, you wont be disappointed.
Most of you would have seen this image before, the iconic Seppeltsfield palm trees. This place holds so much history, food wine and a highly knowledgeable team who can talk all things wine. Only about 1 hrs drive from Adelaide, you could easily spend the day here. Take part in their heritage tour, dine at FINO, taste 100 year old tawny and your birth year, or simply taste some of the magnificent wines from the cellar door.
Since releasing their first wine in 2002, Hentley Farm has established themselves as one of the nations finest, taking out the Winery of the Year award in 2015. Located in the Barossa, this historic homestead property is bursting with history and class. Spend your day in one of the many tasting rooms, or experience the fine food from the multiple award winning restaurant. The Hentley Farm Restaurant offers two set menu options, both of which work as a surprise on the day.
Located on the outskirts of Tanunda with sweeping views over the Barossa Valley, Artisians is home to six small producers. While there, experience the knowledge and fantastic wine in the tasting room, which can also be booked for groups by appointment, or simply sit in the Artisians Lounge and taste as a couple. Located within Artisians is Harvest Kitchen. The food here will not disappointed, for groups bigger than 8, Harvest Kitchen offers a “Feed me like a Barossan” menu where the kitchen foes the choosing. For smaller tables, the menu is available 7 days a week.
If you are looking for something a bit different and quirky, then Alpha Box and Dice in McLaren Vale is for you. With only a few varieties of white wine, this is a red wine lovers dream. Visit the cellar door, taste the wines of the alphabet and relax with one of their fantastic platters.
Owned by the Lloyd family, Coriole is located in the McLaren Vale region and released its first wine (Shiraz) in 1970. Popular with group events and weddings, Coriole is a picturesque location, with a fantastic cellar door and restaurant that is open for lunch. Venture into their cellar door and you may be treated to cellar door exclusive tastings as well as the well-known wines.
Located in the Adelaide Hills, Shaw and Smith were awarded the award for Best Cellar Door for 2015. The Shaw + Smith Tasting Room is located at the winery and offers Wine Flights: a semi formal tasting of five wines, accompanied by a cheese sampler plate. Wine Flights are designed for one person, at a cost of $18 each.
Also located in the Adelaide Hills, Bird in Hand is known for its cool climate wines. The cellar door is home to a timeless barrel door, were you can taste the entire portfolio, as well as exclusive cellar door wines. Their onsite restaurant, The Gallery, shows Bird in Hands passion for food, wine, art and design.Guests can experience two types of dining experiences during their lunch service. Please note their restaurant is only open Friday through Sunday.
